A Place to Call Home
A Special Letter from the IHN Advisory Board
Dear Friends of the Interfaith Hospitality Network of Greater Worcester,
As you may know already, it has been the long time dream of the Interfaith
Hospitality Network of Greater Worcester to acquire a “static site.”
We have been talking for a long time about a home of our own, where
our families would stay in one place and congregational volunteers would
come to serve and support them on a weekly, rotating basis much as before.
Up until recently such a home has been a long-range plan, a future hope.
But now both the best interests of our guest families and the change
in state fire/building codes have compelled us to seek a permanent home
for our program as soon as possible. The dream needs to become a reality
quickly. So we are genuinely bursting with excitement to let you know
that the opportunity has arisen to purchase and own our own house and
our once far-off vision is within our reach!
With the leadership and support of Friendly House, our sponsoring organization,
the IHN has the opportunity to acquire a remarkable property, a two-family
home in a safe, clean and friendly neighborhood of Worcester, with off-street
parking, a garage, a fenced yard and enough space to not only spread
out but expand our program’s capacity! It is better than we ever
imagined! An offer to purchase has been made and accepted. And now we
need to raise funds as quickly as possible to acquire it.
That is why we are turning to you, our network members, our friends,
IHN volunteers, supporters and allies. Our ambitious goal is to raise
$150,000 by the end of the summer in immediate cash gifts and pledges!
It’s audacious, but it’s doable! In fact, we dare to dream
of even exceeding that amount and raising the full $300,000 to buy the
house outright, leaving IHN with no mortgage! Bigger miracles have happened!
We expect to raise a portion of the total cost from grants and from
loans (if need be), but mostly from generous supporters of the IHN of
Greater Worcester - like you.
Here is what we are asking our friends and supporters for: 100 gifts/pledges
of $1,000 each. Can you make a onetime gift of $1,000 and help the IHN
acquire A Place to Call Home?
Or can you pledge $200/month for the next six months?
Or can you find four friends and aggregate your onetime gifts of $200/each
to make a joint gift of $1,000?
There are many ways to help us attain A Place to Call Home!
These 100 gifts/pledges of $1,000 would be onetime, capital expenditure
gifts. While we will still be fundraising, applying for grants and relying
on our member congregations for annual support to maintain our yearly
operating budget, these 100 gifts/pledges of $1,000 would go only for
purchasing and prepping our new home. Together we can build A Place
to Call Home! Why, before our campaign even officially began, we already
had three gifts of $1,000 each just from hearing what we hope to do.
Ninety-seven to go!
To make the long-sought goal of a static site a reality; to promote
the well-being of our IHN families; to abide by state codes and keep
our guests and volunteers safe, we need to all come together and come
together quickly. God has opened a window of amazing opportunity for
us – won’t you help us fly through it?

All gifts are tax-deductible and will be used in full to acquire, update
and furnish our new static site. (In the unlikely event this property
purchase falls through - it’s been known to happen - all contributed
monies will be held and applied to next best property we can find. A
Place to Call Home donations will only be used for purchase and preparation
of a static site for the IHN of Greater Worcester.)
